Classic cover artists: Ian Gibson
In its earliest years, the House of Tharg published a number of highly-talented illustrators with distinct, individual, instantly recognisable yet inimitable styles, and Ian Gibson was among the very best of them. He is a British artist but his lines have a flourish that appear to me closer to the European tradition, and his prolific output has helped to position 2000AD as a publication closer in style to continental comics than to those from America (with which the British market has always been more familiar). Ian was also a master of the cover design, with several superbly-composed 2000AD front page credits to his name, including several for two of his best-known strips, Robo Hunter and The Ballad of Halo Jones.
