20 April 1985: 2000AD Prog 414
Thirty-nine years ago Cliff Robinson illustrated his first front cover for 2000AD. He’s one of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic’s most prolific cover artists, still blasting away those thrill-suckers, producing stunning work today.
This issue of 2000AD, prog 414, came bagged with a Masters of the Universe sticker album from Panini and one free pack of five stickers. Sadly I don’t have this free gift. Does anyone have a photo of the album that came with this issue?
An explosive two-part Judge Dredd story, ‘Juve’s Eyes’ by John Wagner and Alan Grant, drawn by Ron Smith (such painstaking detail!) kicked off in this prog.
The ninth, penultimate part of Book 2 of The Ballad of Halo Jones, saw Halo steal an unexpected dance with Lux Roth Chop, owner of the Clara Pandy luxury space liner. Written by Alan Moore, drawn by Ian Gibson.
Slaine fought ancient terrors in part 4 of The Time Killers, by Pat Mills and drawn by David Pugh.
Rogue Trooper was trekking across the planet Horst in the company of bug soldiers. Written by Gerry Finley-Day, drawn by Jose Ortiz.
The Helltrekkers also reached its penultimate, tragic episode, written by Wagner and Grant (under the pseudonym F. Martin Candor, and drawn by Horacio Lalia.
Brendan McCarthy supplied a striking ‘thought crime’ back cover illustration featuring Judge Anderson.
