Covers gallery: Scream!

Diabolically, Scream! lasted only 15 weekly issues before it was withdrawn as part of an IPC response to NUJ industrial action, never to return as a standalone title. It was a sad loss, but the comic leaves a great legacy, in quality if not in quantity. Just look at the cream of 1984's British comic artists that contributed covers.

Incidentally, there was a wonderful short-run tribute to Scream! published last year as part of Hibernia's Comic Archive. Based on surviving design roughs, the editors of It's Ghastly! have mocked up what issues 16, 17 and 18 of Scream! would have looked like if they'd made it to press. I'm not sure whether any of these have made it online, and I don't want to scan them without permission, but I believe a few copies are still available.
