On this day, 25 February 1989 … the tenth issue of the fortnightly comic in which all stories occurred simultaneously among pioneering explorers of an alien world was published. Wildcat was a bold attempt to create a whole new comic universe from scratch, and boasted striking and memorable artwork from the likes of Ian Kennedy, Massimo Belardinelli, Ron Smith, David Pugh and Vanyo, but appears to have proven unsustainable at a time when other new comic launches were tied in with pre-existing brands (Super Naturals, Ring Raiders, Gary Lineker’s Hot-shot and the Judge Dredd Megazine – not that any but the latter lasted much longer than Wildcat) and was merged into Eagle after the twelfth issue.

In this issue, mission leader Turbo Jones attempted a winged escape from the clutches of the Arglons, while on other continents of the hostile planet, Joe Alien was captured by giant slugs, Kitten Magee caught a hover-ride but it was the driver who gave her and her team a tip, and Loner was bitten by the love bugs.
