14 February 1981: 2000AD
‘Time to die, Matey! ZZZZ!’ A Brian Bolland classic cover marked the 199th issue of The Galaxy’s Greatest Comic, in thrill-merchants 42 years ago this week.
The Judge Dredd serial Pirates of the Black Atlantic was in the third of its four-week run. Script by John Wagner and Alan Grant (writing jointly as T. B. Grover), art by Ron Smith.
Other thrills in this prog were:
Tharg: Revenge of the Thrill-Suckers
The Mean Arena
Meltdown Man
Return to Armageddon
Excitement was building for the landmark Prog 200, which would include the first part of a genuinely excellent poster displaying a gallery of 2000AD characters, and the start of one of the best serials ever to appear in the comic, Strontium Dog: Portrait of a Mutant.
