18 February 1984: Princess
A short-lived comic of the early 1980s was the re-launched Princess, which used the same title as the popular 60s publication in an attempt to cash in on the buoyancy of the ‘Diana market’ of the day. It lasted only 31 issues before merging into Tammy.
This issue, on sale 39 years ago this week, featured Sheena and the Treetoppers (art Rodrigo Comos) as its lead story. I think it's written at a slightly younger level than the sort of strips that were in Tammy at the time. The merger may have been a step up for Princess readers.
The letters page included its own Di-ary section for readers to express their passion for the people’s princess. He ‘How Trendy Are You?’ quiz is (probably) a sign of the times.
