On this day, 17 April 1971: Tammy and Sally
This striking design was typical of Tammy covers from the first two or three years of its run: a bold, colourful portrait of a girl looking directly into the eyes of the reader, like a fashion mag for a more sophisticated audience.
A few more covers from that era are here: http://www.greatnewsforallreaders.com/blog/2017/8/25/classic-cover-artists-tammy-1971-1972
Strips in this week’s Tammy included: Beattie Beats ‘Em All about a talented athlete from a poor home (art by Bella’s John Armstrong), superhero The Cat Girl (Giorgio Giorgetti), time travel adventure The Secret of Trebaran and hard-luck saga No Tears for Molly (Tony Thewenetti).
Full-page ads for toys, sweets and lollies were also part of the mix.
