On this day, 9 September 1978: Misty
Feel the purrs emanating from the cover of this Misty. The Cats of Carey Street were a menacing assembly of moggies who prowled the empty buildings of a demolition-threatened slum and protected the elderly woman who refused to move out of her home. In this week’s issue, the woman and her granddaughter were terrorised by a gang of looters, until the cats slunk in …
Elsewhere in the issue, another serial, The Black Widow, continued. Evil Mrs Webb terrorised London with her collection of giant spiders, as vengeance for the death of her scientist husband in a military experiment. And there were further feline frights in the one-off tale Elmo’s Revenge, about another elderly woman whose soul inhabits her cat until she can claim the body of the girl who stole from her.
Look out too for a beautiful autumnal Misty illustration (I think this was turned into one of Shirley Bellwood’s front covers for a later edition), and part three of the excellent ‘Play Misty’ board game! I’ve put this together with parts one and two in case anyone is looking for something spooky to play as the nights draw in.
