On this day, 26 May 1979: Tornado
Wagner's Walk told the tale of the escape of German soldier Major Kurt Wagner (originally intended, some believe, to be Major Kurt Hellman from Action and Battle's Hellman of Hammer Force) from a Russian army Siberian labour camp, and his long walk to India. As Monkey, Tripitaka, Sandy and Pigsy also trekked to India in 1979, I get that Gandhara theme song in my head every time I read an episode. Which probably wasn't the intention of Wagner's Walk's pseudonymous writer, R. E. Wright. But that's just the way my head works. It's a good story though, and here graced by an excellent Ian Kennedy front cover.
Elsewhere in this Tornado, Big E, aka Dave Gibbons, demonstrates his action chops - 'Keep the Peace', Dave - and Black Hawk replaces The Angry Planet in the centre pages, showcasing the work of Spanish artist Alfonso Azpiri.
