Happy New Year!
Happy New Year! I’ve been a planning a slightly different format for the blog to start from today. After a (nearly) full year of ‘On This Day’ posts, I’m going to cut back on the number of those that I write – in part because the self-imposed pressure of trying to post one for every single day of the year became a bit too much for me, and in part because – unless I repeat key issues – there simply won’t be as many issues of interest for a second year and beyond. I’m not ending the feature completely, however, and will continue with occasional ‘On This Day’ posts as and when suitable issues come up. Here on the blog, I’m starting a new feature called 'Story File’. My aim here is to write short posts to introduce and summarise all the serials of the IPC comics of the 1970s and 1980s. It's a way of studying the comics from a different perspective. I’m still preparing the list, and it looks as though this could run to between 1500 and 2000 serials, so I’m not sure I’ll ever complete the feature but I like the challenge. For fun, I’m going to create a Top Trumps-style card for each story so if you feel so inclined you can print them out and impress your pals! ! The first Story File features Shako! the great white bear from the early days of 2000AD, and the coming week presents stories from the pages of Buster, Jinty, School Fun and Lion. Let’s see how this goes …
